After noticing Freddie Gibbs’ insightful and often humorous observations on sports through his Twitter account, Rap Radar decided to give him a forum to express his thoughts on the thrills of victory and the agonies of defeat. It’s Gangsta Gibbs Wide World Of Sports. The black Bill Simmons is here. And for his 10th column, Gibbs licks a shot for the return of NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress.
One of my close homies told me that Carlos Boozer was mad at my column a couple of weeks back and he wanted to battle rap me for his salary next season.
Nigga please. We all know who gets paid to rap, and we know who gets paid to play basketball. So if you’re focused on that maybe my Bulls would still be on TV. Anyway, Welcome home Plaxico Burress.
In my eyes, he was one of the best wide receivers in the game before his unfortunate incident in an NYC night club that left him charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Unfortunate? Who the fuck am I kidding? That was just plain stupid Plax.
Aye my nigga, I got two gun charges in two different states so I understand the need for protection. We as public figures just gotta go about it the correct fashion especially a nigga in your position. But I got love for you though.
I been a fan since the Michigan State days and I’m eager to see what the future holds for you. 21 months in jail is a long time when you’re talking football. Not too many guys can miss two whole NFL seasons and come back and be productive. The speed of the game is always changing and you can’t really run post routes in a 6×6. With new young lockdown corners in the league like Patrick Peterson and vets like Darrelle Revis, it’ll definitely be a difficult task.
I must admit I was amazed at the MVP-like numbers Mike Vick put up this past year, not that I doubted him anyway, but most individuals wouldn’t have had the heart to do 23 months in the fed joint at Leavenworth then come out and be a starting QB in the league. I recognize and respect what he went through to get back on top. His situation has inspired me to believe that Plax can definitely be a good addition to any of the 32 teams.
What QB wouldn’t want a 6’5” target with a proven resume? Although he will be 34 at the start of the season I think for a wideout he’s still in his prime years. Shiiiit look at T.O., with the right guy taking the snaps it’s no doubt Plax can be effective. There’s even talks of him going to the Eagles to play with Vick. I think that’ll be an ill combination with guys like Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin on opposite sides.
A nigga went from being locked up to locked out, yet in still, he’ll be one of the top free agents once Roger Goodell and these owners get off that bullshit. Hell, the Giants should take him back, they need the help. I mean the man made a mistake but shit he had the game-winning catch in Super Bowl 42, don’t that count for something?
Anyway this blunt’s for you, Plax. God bless you and your family and I hope you finish your career on a positive note with big numbers and no more Super Bowl rings unless you go to DA BEARS of course.
I’m out this bitch. You can’t see me Carlos.
